Course Description:  The course provides an introduction into the complex reality of the Catholic tradition. The course offers interdisciplinary study of Catholic belief, history, worship, and spirituality.  Topics range from the foundational doctrinal beliefs and historical events of Catholicism to contemporary developments and debates.

Course Readings:  There is no required text for this course.  However, the new

Course description

This course examines ethical responses to the perennial problem of the sexuality and culture.  The course begins with an exploration of some dominant theories of sexuality and sexual ethics as well as religious perspectives on sexuality and marriage.  The last part of the course focuses on current cultural developments and debates in the domain of sexual identity and life.

 

 

Course Requirements:

1.  Annotated Bibliography.  Choose six items: a) articles/essays (2500 words or more), b) chapters of books, c) reports, d) books  (at least 2).   Write a 250-word annotation/review of each item.   The 6 items should focus on one topic area, ideally the topic of your class presentation.  (Due: Oct 31) (30%)

2.  Mid-Term  (Oct. 24)                       (30%)

3.  Panel Discussion: Presentation of an “executive summary” (approx. 2 pages) of a 6-8 page position paper on one of the 6 topics listed for discussion.  A written submission of your position paper (with bibliography) (Nov. 28, Dec. 3)  (30%)

4.  Attendance and Participation (10%)
